Lancia Delta HardBlack

The new Delta Hard Black is a special series featuring some important style and product innovations. It is available with all engines (except for the 165 HP 2.0 MultiJet) and from today also on the new 140 HP 1.4 MultiAir S&S Euro 5.

This is one of the best petrol engines in the world in terms of its emission/power ratio (just 132 g/km over a combined cycle). It is also the best in its class in terms of fuel consumption and torque availability within the relevant power band: 5.7 l/100 km over a combined cycle and maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1750 rpm.

More specifically, MultiAir technology marks a departure from the normal petrol engine scenario, a genuine generational leap that can be compared to the leap when MultiJet technology was introduced on diesel engines. Suffice to say that when compared to a conventional petrol engine of equivalent size, a MultiAir engine develops more power (up to 10%) and torque (up to 15%), while consuming significantly less fuel (up to 10%) and emitting less CO2 (up to 10%). The true spirit of MultiAir is encapsulated in the new electrohydraulic valve management system. Fuel consumption and polluting emissions are reduced by controlling air directly via the engine intake valves, without using the throttle.

The 140 HP 1.4 MultiAir Turbo engine fitted to the Delta therefore guarantees an increase in power and torque at low speed and also a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, thanks also to the adoption of a Start&Stop system that temporarily turns off the engine when the car is at a standstill. The 140 HP 1.4 Multiair Turbo it is also paired with a new 6-speed manual gearbox that offers greater driving satisfaction due to faster, slicker gearshifts. In brief, the new engine ensures top-class eco-friendliness (it is Euro 5 type-approved) without compromising on performance and driving pleasure.

On the outside, the new version is distinguished by a special opaque black body treatment: it is the first car not produced in a limited series to sport this exclusive paint finish which requires a long painting process (over 4 hours per car). After all, colour has never been simply a matter of aesthetics for the Delta. On the contrary, it is an integral part of a product philosophy based on elegance, glamour, personality, style and the widest array of customisation options.

The new body colour is combined with a glossy black roof and precious style accents, like chrome-plated mirror frames, twin chrome-plated tailpipes and 18" alloy wheels (one-of-a-kind Hard Black 18" wheels in matching body colour are available on demand). On the inside, the outstanding leather and black Starlite Alcantara® upholstery cannot go unnoticed. What is more, this exclusive version of the Delta comes as standard with an array of innovative equipment to enhance comfort and driving satisfaction, such as an electronic variable damping Reactive Suspension System, an automatic dual zone climate control system and the Blue&Me™ system.

The Delta special series can also be equipped with the top performing power units in the range, the 200 HP 1.8 Di TurboJet and the 190 HP 1.9 Twin Turbo engine. In more detail, the first power unit delivers a maximum power of 200 HP (147 kW) at 5000 rpm and a peak torque of 320 Nm (32.6 kgm) at 1400 rpm. It is an innovative direct injection petrol engine with turbocharger and a dual continuous variable valve timing system, that reasserts Lancia's racing vocation and its respect for the environment in terms of low emissions and reduced fuel consumption at the same time. All this further enhances the liveliness, flexibility and driveability that have always been features of the model. The 200 HP 1.8 Di TurboJet engine combined with a modern Sportronic six-speed automatic transmission, allows the Lancia Delta to reach a top speed of 230 km/h and go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds. The car is also distinguished by its low fuel consumption (7.8 litres per 100 km), reduced emissions of CO2 (185 g/km) and Euro 5 compliance.

As an alternative, the Delta Hard Black can be equipped with the 1.9 Twin Turbo MultiJet, the most powerful engine in its class, with maximum power of 190 HP and a peak torque of 400 Nm at 2.000 rpm. This means impressive performance, such as a top speed of 222 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The car's excellent performance is the result of exciting technological innovations, like the twin turbochargers (hence the name Twin Turbo): a compact one with low inertia to ensure ready, vigorous response at low rpm and a bigger one to deliver greater top end power. It should be noted that the high power delivery (approximately 100 HP/litre) is a value thus far reserved for out-and-out sporty petrol engines. Even more appealing is that it comes with no less than 300 Nm of torque at just 1250 rpm: this makes the 1.9 Twin Turbo MultiJet extremely responsive to all the driver's requests for a truly satisfying driving experience in all situations.

To coincide with the debut of the new MultiAir engine, the Lancia Delta range offers an additional new feature: the introduction of the 120 HP 1.4 T-Jet Euro 5, which reduces CO2 emissions from 149 to 146 g/km compared to the corresponding Euro 4 power unit. With the introduction of the 140 HP 1.4 MultiAir and the 120 HP 1.4 T-Jet Euro 5, the petrol range of the Lancia Delta is therefore entirely made up of Euro 5 engines, confirming the winning attributes of this model. The Lancia Delta has always been particularly appreciated by the public for its state-of-the-art technology, performance and engines. It stands out as an innovative car that offers a high level of driving satisfaction with low fuel consumption and respect for the environment.
