Mitsubishi Lancers

A new look, advanced safety upgrades, and thoughtful interior enhancements ensure that Mitsubishi Lancer will continue to set standards in the hotly contested compact sedan category. Precise handling, surprising power, unexpected amenities and superior value are Lancer hallmarks. For 2006, Mitsubishi adds more flair, comfort, convenience and security.

Mitsubishi Lancer is offered in three models, each with appeal to a different type of person. But all three share core attributes, like superb engineering, a focus on the driver and a streak of individuality rarely seen in other brands. Lancer ES is an affordable, well equipped, five passenger, 4 door sedan with elegant, contemporary styling. OZ® Rally is much more sporty in feel and appearance while Lancer Ralliart delivers exceptional performance refined by decades of Mitsubishi World Rally Championship experience.

"Our formula for success in the compact segment has been simple – combine handling, features, good power and unexpected value." said Paul Cummings, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. "Every 2006 Lancer, from a base 5 speed ES to a fully packaged Ralliart follows this simple formula. Give your customers more than they expect, and you will stand out from the crowd. Lancer certainly does."

Upscale Exteriors, Inviting Interiors

For 2006, two separate front grill approaches and a new front bumper help to define Lancer's multiple personalities. The ever popular ES model features a distinguished chrome design, while the frisky Rally OZ® and powerful Ralliart models now boast a sporty and competitive black mesh look. The refined new bumper complements both grills and helps establish a strong, sporty front end appearance. Aerodynamic wraparound headlights incorporate a jeweled multi-reflector surface for improved low beam nighttime visibility. The headlamps use bright lenses for Lancer ES, while dark lenses can be found on both the OZ® Rally and the Ralliart editions. In addition, Lancer Ralliart boasts unique fog lights that create another visual distinction from other Lancers.

Inside, for 2006, all new seat fabrics throughout the lancer line add beauty, comfort and luxury. Additional interior enhancements include a new four spoke steering wheel, updated instrument panel accents and an upper dashboard clock with an advance air bag indicator display and hazard switch. All Lancers come well equipped and standard features for even the base ES model include a 140W Mitsubishi CD audio system, 8 way driver's seat with height adjustment, adjustable steering column, trunk room lamp, dual visor mirrors tinted glass and much more.

Drivetrain & Suspension

Lancer for 2006 continues to feature a choice of two very capable engines. Lancer ES and OZ® Rally both share a silky smooth 2.0 litre, SOHC, 16 valve, four cylinder producing 120 hp @5500 rpm and 130 lb ft of torque @ 4250 rpm. This proven engine offers abundant midrange power, outstanding drivability and terrific mileage. For even higher levels of performance, Lancer Ralliart features Mitsubishi's acclaimed 2.4 litre, SOHC, 16 valve, four cylinder MIVEC engine, developing 162 willing hp and 162 lb-ft of torque.

All Lancers transfer power to the front wheels through an easy shifting 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic that features Mitsubishi's adaptive shift control system. The sophisticated INVECS-II controller constantly monitors driving habits and tailors shift points to suit the style of the individual driver. The 5 speed manual used in the Ralliart features a sport shifter, borrowed from the Lancer Evolution (not sold in Canada) which provides for shorter gear shift movement.

Getting power to the road is one thing. Delivering precise handling, excellent ride quality and outstanding stability on all road surfaces is another. Lancer models utilize a sophisticated fully independent suspension system that has evolved after years of competition in the World Rally Championship. The front end uses a classic MacPherson strut design with an anti sway bar. The rear end employs a multi-link configuration with trailing arms, coil springs and a rear anti sway bar. Hydroformed cross members are employed to reduce torsional flex and road noise. The steering system is a competition proven rack-and-pinion design with excellent road feel.

Chassis and Safety

To maximize occupant safety all Mitsubishi Lancers feature unibody construction on a special RISE (Refined Impact Safety Evolution) chassis. Using the latest in computer aided design; this structure includes energy absorbing front and rear crumple zones, a reinforced passenger area, sophisticated side protection and a fortified safety cage.

For 2006, improved safety features include advanced Dual Stage air bags with passenger occupant sensors. And a security package, combining anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and front seat mounted side impact air bags, is standard on OZ® Rally and Ralliart, optional for ES models. Plus, all five seating positions have 3 point safety belts. Front seats have height adjustable shoulder anchors plus pretentioners and force limiters for the front belts, standard equipment.
